Spending your vacation at the seaside is already a great idea. Spending it at the seaside… on a bike is even better! Get on your bikes and discover our top 3 must-do bike rides!

Between marked coastlines, exceptional heritage sites, and safe trails, cycling becomes a shared pleasure that is accessible to all.

In Cœur de Nacre, water sports, family beaches, and landscapes stretching to the horizon are easy to explore on two wheels. Here, families, couples, and groups of friends can find their own pace: a leisurely ride along the seafront, an ice cream break sitting facing the waves, and cultural detours to the D-Day landing sites.

Because here, everything is designed for peaceful cycling. The destination boasts 12 kilometers of marked coastline thanks to La Vélomaritime, which passes through iconic resorts such as Luc-sur-Mer, Saint-Aubin-sur-Mer, and Courseulles-sur-Mer.

Add to that direct access to Canadian D-Day sites such as Juno Beach in Courseulles-sur-Mer, and you have a destination where gentle sports, nature, and remembrance come together perfectly.

Cycling vacations for every profile

In Cœur de Nacre, family cycling is synonymous with tranquility. The marked trails, mostly flat terrain, and constant proximity to the sea provide a reassuring setting.

Children love cycling along the dykes, racing each other and stopping to enjoy the beach. (* Please note that there are regulations governing access to the dykes during the season.)

Parents appreciate the lack of heavy traffic and the possibility of doing everything by bike: beach, market, restaurant, and summer activities.

The result: fewer cars, more freedom… and shared memories at the end of the journey.

Imagine a stroll at sunset along the seafront. The sound of the waves, the golden light on the old villas, a spontaneous stop to admire the horizon…

Cycling allows you to experience your destination differently, with a slow tourism approach. You can stop whenever you want, explore charming little streets, or improvise a picnic on the beach.

Cœur de Nacre offers a rare luxury: everything is close by, accessible, and perfect for moments together.

For a weekend with friends, cycling becomes a playground. Friendly challenges on a sporty loop, a break on a seaside terrace, an impromptu swim…

The diversity of routes allows the outing to be adapted to the group’s level.

And when evening comes, everyone can share their favorite part over a convivial dinner.

Fancy some sea air and breathtaking views?

This section of La Vélomaritime is a must-see. You can ride safely along the coast, with marked trails passing through seaside resorts.

The route is ideal for a family outing: flat terrain, unobstructed views, and numerous rest areas.

We cycle along at a leisurely pace, stop to dip our feet in the water, then set off again.

Special mention for the sunset between Luc-sur-Mer and Courseulles-sur-Mer: magical… and perfect for a souvenir photo.

Who is it for?
Families with children, beginner cyclists, and those who enjoy leisurely rides.

This walk connects Courseulles-sur-Mer to Luc, passing through Saint-Aubin-sur-Mer.

A string of boardwalks, Belle Époque villas, and small beach huts give this outing an irresistible retro charm.

Upon arrival, head to the port of Courseulles for a gourmet break or a visit to the Juno Beach Center.

Cycling here is like traveling between seaside relaxation and historical memories.

The added bonus: numerous stops to enjoy homemade ice cream (a combination of exercise and indulgence—we approve).

For an outing that combines sports and culture, head to Juno Beach. This Canadian landing beach is easily accessible by bike from the coastal towns.

The route alternates between the coast and greener inland areas.

Once there, a visit to the Juno Beach Center allows you to delve deeper into the history.

Throughout the route, you will enjoy 360° views of the sea and oyster beds, passing by the moving British Memorial at Ver-sur-Mer located on Gold Beach.

Our tip: Plan a stop in Asnelles to sample their delicious homemade shortbread cookies.

Who is it for?
Curious couples, history buffs, groups of friends in search of meaning.

NB: The museum offers a low-carbon pricing policy.

The must-sees:

  • The Juno Beach Centre, Canada’s only museum dedicated to the D-Day landings,
  • Juno Park with its remains of the Atlantic Wall and bunker tours,
  • The Fouques farm in Sainte-Croix-sur-Mer with its delicious rhubarb products,
  • The artisanal manufacture of the famous H2o umbrellas in Crépon,
  • The D-Day Museum in Arromanches and the remains of the artificial harbor.

We love: the sunset over the cream-coloured walls of the British Memorial in Ver-sur-Mer and the breathtaking view of the Gold Beach area.

Want to leave the coast behind and discover a more bucolic side of Normandy?

The old railway line connecting Caen to Courseulles-sur-Mer from 1875 to 1950 has been converted into a greenway.

The Vallon de la Capricieuse is a 33-hectare green space stretching from the Luc-sur-Mer campsite to Douvres-la-Délivrande.

You’ll travel through rural landscapes, along hedgerow-lined paths and quiet country roads. Here, life slows down.

This is the ideal outing for those who want to enjoy a variety of activities and avoid the summer crowds.

Atmosphere: bell towers, apple trees, and fresh air.

Why take a stroll along the Vallon de la Capricieuse?

Along the route: numerous fruit trees, exercise equipment, picnic tables, an outdoor theatre, small wooden bridges… in short, a bucolic setting for a successful bike ride!

All around you, there are a multitude of plants to discover in every season: wild sorrel, chervil, wild garlic, clover…

We love: the cycle ride can be extended to Douvres-la-Délivrande. Take the Thomas de Douvres promenade which runs alongside the Douvette stream to La Baronnie, a remarkably well-restored medieval stronghold.
