Description

Composed of young people between the ages of 10 and 17, from the NDA (Notre Dame de l'Annonciation) school in Cheticamp, Nova Scotia, this troupe, directed by Christine Doucet, was founded in 1987. Through its choreography, it showcases, among others, traditional Cape Breton dances such as the square set and the jig, called "dance of the four" in the Cheticamp region. It also features dances from other parts of the world such as hip hop, Scottish dance and folk dances. The group even goes into schools to promote this art form that is so well rooted in Acadian culture. Since its founding, La Swing du suête has performed throughout the Maritimes, Quebec and Louisiana, USA. This will be the first time they will participate in the "La semaine acadienne" festival

Through its work, La Swing du Suête has contributed to the development of the talent of hundreds of young people in the community, to the development of the arts in the region, and to the promotion and preservation of Acadian dance.
