Description

The parcels arrived safely" It was with these few words, written on a letter, that Paul and Louise Ostier learned on March 23, 1944, that their two young children, Arthur (7) and Adrien (5), had arrived safely at the congregation of the Vierge Fidèle in Douvres-la-Délivrande, Normandy.

Victims of persecution against the Jews, they thought they were protecting them from Nazi barbarism. Without realizing it, they had just placed them at the heart of the greatest event of the Second World War, which would take place exactly on this spot, 2 months later: the landing of Allied forces in Normandy on June 6, 1944.

Today, Arthur Ostier is 88 years old, Adrien Ostier 86. Both have never forgotten the few months they spent in this religious community, where only the Mother Superior knew of their Jewish roots, and to whom, as they say, they owe their lives.
