Beachcombing: a fun and delicious activity…

When the tide goes out, Bernières-sur-Mer turns into a life-size playground for beachcombing.

Equipped with a bucket and a net, young and old alike set off on a hunt for shellfish and crustaceans.

Littleneck clams, crabs, and shrimp hide between the sand and rocks: a real marine treasure hunt!

Bernières-sur-Mer is a small seaside resort on a human scale, particularly suited to families.

Its sandy beach, which is supervised in summer, reassures parents and entertains children.

Here, there are no oppressive crowds: just enough space to build sandcastles, hunt for shells, or splash around quietly at high tide.

📣 Bonus for parents near Bernières-sur-Mer beach: a playground at Berthélémy Park, a food truck area in summer on Îlot des Français, a city park, and a skate park.

Bernières-sur-Mer as a couple… Here, the days pass to the rhythm of the tides and walks hand in hand along the seawall and the Platon marsh.

The intimate atmosphere of the village appeals to lovers seeking tranquility, far from the hustle and bustle of large resorts.

We have lunch opposite the white cabins, stroll through picturesque streets lined with beautiful stone houses, and treat ourselves to a paddleboarding trip at sunset or a romantic bike ride along the Vélomaritime cycle path.

Sunbathe and splash around on the large beach

With its fine sand and lifeguards on duty in summer, the beach is the number one attraction.

Children find it an endless playground, and parents find it the perfect setting for lounging around.

By decor, we mean the white beach huts that have sprung up along the coastline with the popularity of sea bathing.

We change clothes there, we read there, we chat there.

In order to avoid overly eccentric booths, around 1920, the municipality imposed a single model for all booths.

They are still there, overlooking the beach.

2.Immerse yourself in the history of the D-Day landings

Beyond the Maison des Canadiens and the Remem’Bernières digital trail, the entire coastline is dotted with memorials, military cemeteries and museums, perfect for an educational and moving outing.

3.Stroll through the heart of the village

Stroll through the streets to admire the ancient castles and strongholds of the local lords.

Admire the Church of Our Lady of the Nativity with its remarkable stone altarpiece.

Guided tours are available during the season to discover the history of this church and the village of Bernières.

4.Go for a bike ride on the Vélomaritime cycle route

Whether with family or as a couple, this is the ideal activity for breathing in the sea air while enjoying the coastal scenery.

Whether on foot or by bicycle, the golden lights on the beach create a romantic and unforgettable setting.

Our tip: take a short walk around the Platon marsh, a 6-hectare protected natural area that runs alongside the dune ridge leading to Courseulles-sur-Mer.

This is a very pleasant place to walk and observe a wide variety of plant and animal species.

5.Try your hand at water sports

Paddleboarding, kayaking, coastal walking, sand yachting: local water sports clubs offer lessons and boat hire for all ages and abilities.
