Description

"The parcels arrived safely". It was with these few words, written on a letter from Mother du Saint Coeur de Marie, the Mother Superior of the Congregation of the Virgin Faithful at Douvres-la-Délivrande, that Paul and Louise Ostier learned on 23 March 1944 that their two young children, Arthur (8) and Adrien (6), had arrived safely in Normandy. Victims of persecution against the Jews, they thought this would protect them from the barbarity of the Nazis. Without knowing it, they had just placed them at the heart of the greatest event of the Second World War, which would take place exactly on this spot 2 months later: the landing of the Allied forces in Normandy on 6 June 1944.

Today, Arthur Ostier is 88 and Adrien Ostier 86. Both have never forgotten those few months spent in this religious community, where only the Mother Superior knew of their Jewish roots, and to whom, as they say, they owe their lives.

Through this documentary, which focuses on them, we relive this tragic period of the war. The show "La lumière dans la cave" (The Light in the Cellar), created by Jeanette Arsenault and based on this documentary, will have its world premiere on 11 August at 5.00 p.m. in the Lalique chapel in Douvres-la-Délivrande, the very place where this story unfolded.
