Description

We are delighted to present Les Pieds au Vol, a Nova Scotia dance troupe driven by a deep love of dance and a sincere desire to pass on Acadian culture to new generations.

Founded in 2010 by Renée Samson, the troupe was born of a passion that has never left her: dance, music and cultural transmission. Very early on, Renée felt the call to share her Acadian heritage through shows presented in the province, elsewhere in the country and even internationally. With Les Pieds au Vol, she instils in her young dancers, with a touch of modernity, the pride of passing on as a team the unique traditional dance style of their community. Through our shows, we tell the story of our identity, our history and our traditions. For us, dance is a living language that brings people together, a powerful means of showcasing Acadian culture while creating authentic links with our audiences.

Made up of dancers from several Acadian communities in our little corner of Richmond County, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, our troupe embodies a beautiful cultural diversity. This richness is reflected in our energy on stage, our spirit of collaboration and our deep commitment to our heritage. In 2020, Renée Samson fulfilled a cherished dream by opening her own dance studio, Islandview Athletics, in her home. This project enabled her to preserve her family life while pursuing her cultural mission. Today, she is fortunate to be assisted by her former students, who have become coaches in their own right, and who share the same passion and vision of dance as a springboard for culture and identity. Above all, Les Pieds au Vol aims to celebrate and promote Acadian culture in an accessible, dynamic and authentic way. It is in this spirit that we are particularly honoured to to represent Nova Scotia in France during La Semaine acadienne in August.

For Renée Samson, this participation has a very special meaning. She attended the festival with the troupe in 2014, and has been dreaming of this return ever since. ''For us, La Semaine acadienne is a celebration of incredible talent, moments of great Acadian pride and unique sharing. It's a space where, as Acadians from all over the world, we come together with pride to celebrate the culture of a country without borders.''

The dance troupe, Les pieds au vol, is looking forward to their participation in the Semaine Acadienne with great patience! Taking part in such a festival is a true gift, an incredible reality that will allow our dancers to discover other Acadian artists, other countries and other cultural traditions, while sharing their pride and artistic talents with the whole world.
