Emilie and Julia de Cooker present Funafuti: one of the 9 atolls that make up the independent state of Tuvalu, a surprisingly tiny fragment of land emerging from the vast Pacific Ocean, measuring just 2.8 square kilometres. Photographer Julia de Cooker and her sister, writer Émilie de Cooker, went there to appreciate its unique culture, aware of its grim fate: in a few decades, Tuvalu will be submerged by rising sea levels.
