Who was Françoise Sagan? Françoise Sagan is the author of some twenty novels, including Un certain sourire, Aimez-vous Brahms, La chamade, Des bleus à l?âme, Un orage immobile, several short stories, plays (Château en Suède won the Prix du Brigadier in 1960), film adaptations and screenplays, a biography of Sarah Bernhardt, a Diary (Toxique), memoirs, books of interviews, songs and numerous articles?
His first novel, Bonjour tristesse, written in the summer of 1953 and published by Julliard the following year in March, reveals a powerful style of writing, with short, pithy sentences and a tone of such originality that the book was awarded the Prix des Critiques by a prestigious jury (Jean Paulhan, Maurice Nadeau, Georges Bataille, Marcel Arland, Roger Caillois), and was an immediate bestseller in France and abroad. Deemed licentious by some, the novel caused a scandal, and the press seized on the young woman, who became a star of French literature. She was 19 years old. "(?) For three quarters of people, the scandal of this novel was that a young woman could sleep with a man without getting pregnant, without having to get married"
